GARTMORN Dam has been treated to a spring clean.

The popular Sauchie spot has been spruced up thanks to a litter-pick which took place towards the end of last month.

Around half a dozen volunteers from Gartmorn Dam Country Park Development Trust helped tidy up the area.

Chair George McColl said: “Although the dam was relatively litter free, it was noted however the entrance road from the gate at Deerpark, up to the visitors centre, was particularly bad – this was promptly cleaned.

“The whole litter pick resulted in a clean dam area and seven full bags of rubbish; thanks to all volunteers who took part.

“A week on the dam is still litter free. Can I remind all public who use the dam to take their litter home, or place in the bins provided.”

The trust, a community-led association, works alongside landowners to support the protection, conservation and enhancement of the park.

Its aims include developing outdoor recreation, education and learning facilities, along with promoting it as a place to visit.

The litter-pick, on Saturday, April 22, started at the Sunken Garden and went all the way around the dam.

It is one of a number of events that have taken place and the trust hopes to hold even more throughout the summer.

At the weekend, around 50 people turned out to a treasure hunt and barbecue.
