THE Scottish SPCA, which is based in Fishcross, was overwhelmed by the response to their hedgehog food appeal after receiving an incredible amount of food.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity put an appeal out earlier in the year after struggling to keep up with food demand as they cared for an increasing amount of hedgehogs at their National Wildlife Rescue Centre.

Wildlife rescue centre manager Colin Seddon said: “Hedgehogs should be hibernating at this time of year but there will be some out there who won't survive without help. We’ve seen an increase in the number we are caring for since last year and these extra mouths to feed can put a strain on our food supplies.

“We received an overwhelming response from members of the public, Brambles Pet and Wildlife, Feeds and Stoves and Fishcross Primary even put out their own appeal asking for donations to help the hedgehogs.

“It’s heart-warming to see such a response to our appeal. As we don’t receive any government or lottery funding we rely on the public to be able to continue our work rescuing and rehabilitating wild animals in desperate need of our help.”

Donations can be donated via the charity’s Amazon wish list http://amzn.eu/3PRRm0I or handed into the centre in Fishcross, Clackmannanshire FK10 3AN.
