THE work of creative Wee County pupils has been recognised by a Scottish children's author.

At the beginning of term, the P2/3L class at Craigbank Primary School studied the book Wee Granny's Magic Bag as a mini-topic.

Along with reading it, they took part in a whole range of crafty endeavours that were inspired by the story.

When their work was shared on Twitter it was spotted by Elizabeth McKay, who penned the text.

She was so taken by their efforts, that she has agreed to judge a poster competition for the youngsters.

Teacher Zoe Lindsay said: "The children were over the moon to hear they'd impressed the author. They are very proud and extremely excited.

"The competition is to predict what will be in Wee Granny's magic bag in the next book: Wee Granny's Magic Bag and the Pirates.

"The children will make posters showing their predictions. Elizabeth McKay will judge the posters, I'll scan and email her a shortlist, and she will pick her favourite – not necessarily the most accurate prediction.

"The winner will receive a signed copy of the new book."

When reading the story in class, pupils at the Sauchie school acted out and wrote about what they would put in their own magic bag.

They made bags by weaving paper, using ribbons for the handles and then decorating them with sparkly stickers.

They also made cupcakes, much like what the character in the tale did.

Mrs Lindsay said: "In the book there is a day and night scene, so we investigated how day and night happen and conducted experiments using a globe and torch.

"We then created moveable day and night pictures to show the earth's rotation.

"Inspired by the themes of magic and cupcakes, we wrote stories called The Magic Cupcake in our story-writing lesson."
