MP LUKE GRAHAM was in for some tough questioning last week as he appeared before some bright school pupils in Sauchie.

The P5R class at Craigbank Primary School grilled the Ochil and South Perthshire representative on oil spills, electric cars and air pollution.

His visit comes as the youngsters continue their recent focus on green issues in their community and across the country.

Earlier this month, the classed penned letters to Mr Graham to ask what he and his government were doing to preserve the environment.

He then dropped in on the school, where he faced queries about the use of pesticides and greenhouse gases for the inquisitive pupils.

They questioned the affordability of electric cars, asked about the welfare of bees and butterflies, along with the protection of elephants and rhinos.

Children in the class, who are part of the school's Digital Ninja's, also filmed the session with the MP so they could present their findings to fellow students and were involved in Tweeting the questions live on the school's Twitter @CraigbankPS.

Rebekah Reynolds, class teacher, said: “It has been a pleasure empowering the children to share their ideas and supporting their voices being heard.

“They have been so engaged and enthusiastic throughout the whole process, I think this is a memory the children will have forever.”

While visiting, Luke was asked about his life as an MP as well as his thoughts on the environment and its protection.

He was also invited to meet the Craigbank Primary School Glee Club.

The MP said: “I would like to thank the Primary 5 class at Craigbank for having me to visit.

“It was one of the most enjoyable visits I have had anywhere since being elected.

“As always the questions were brilliant," he added. "It was also inspiring to hear the pupils being so passionate about the environment and wanting to hear more about the excellent measures the government is putting in place to protect it.”
