Up to a dozen vehicles were damaged as vandals went on a wrecking spree through Devonside in the early hours of the morning.

Windows were smashed and wing-mirrors ripped off cars, a van and a bus, in various streets in the village.

Neighbours were woken by the sound of smashed glass around 1.30am on Sunday, 10 August.

Police are investigating the rampage that took place between the Saturday night and Sunday morning.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said only five vehicles were reported for damage however the Advertiser understands that more were involved.

Among the vehicles hit by vandals: - A Honda Civic was damaged in Bain Street.

- A bus window was smashed in Alexandra Street.

- Two vehicles parked outside a separate address in Alexandra Street were also damaged.

- A Peugeot 206 sustains smashed window in Moss Road.

- A car and a van were damaged in The Craigs.

Residents who have been left to count the cost of the repairs have called on the installation of cameras on the main thoroughfare to prevent it from happening again.

A woman, whose car was one of those vandalised, told the Advertiser it is not the first time something like this has had happened in the village – although not to this extent. She said that the night it happened there was a gang of youths congregating on the nature trail running from Devonside down to Sterling Mills.

She said, “This isn’t a one-off and it’s not just happening in the [school] holidays. The neighbours are saying that about 12 vehicles were vandalised between here and Coalsnaughton.

“When we first came here it was a really quiet place. You’d go out and not think about anything. Now you are having to put on the alarm and its because of the nature trail. Police need to be more active here and something should be put up to make residents feel safer, whether that be CCTV.” A Police Scotland spokesman said, “Police in Forth Valley Division are investigating after a number of vehicles in the Devonside area of Tillicoutry were damaged over the weekend. The incidents all happened overnight between Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August. Anyone with information that can assist officers with their enquiries is asked to come forward.”
