The Ochils Landscape Partnership is set to start a new project establishing three new community orchards across the Wee County.
Ochil Orchards, the project funded by the Forth Valley Orchards Initiative, has already opened its first site in Tillicoultry. Volunteers are being organised to help prepare for the planting days on 27 and 28 February.
According to Scottish Natural Heritage 90 per cent of orchards in the UK have disappeared in the past 30 years. This is one of the reasons why the partnership has recently been pushing the development of the sites, which beyond serving as a source of food boosts local biodiversity.
One of the main merits of the projects is that local people will have the chance to get involved with every aspect of creating and maintaining the orchards.
This includes the planting of the trees, helping to prune the plants as well as enjoying the fruits of the hard labour.
Visit ochils.org.uk to get involved or call Ochils Landscape Partnership through Clackmannanshire Council on 01259 450 000.
