There was something for the whole family during the event on Sunday (21 June) at the town’s park.

The gala kicked off with a parade from Murray Square which included many local groups such as the Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, Rainbows, Tillicoultry Primary Cheerleaders, Army Cadets, Tillicoultry Scouts, Hillfoots Community Football Club and visiting teams.

The royal party Caelyn Stevenson (queen), Taylor Hiddleston (king), Zoe Hogg and Hana Littlejohn (attendants), Abbie Henderson (flower girl) and Logan Morrison (page boy) were escorted to the public park and guest of honour, former primary school janitor Mike Briggs, officially opened the gala day.

Shaun Murphy, who was involved in organising the gala, said the event went well.

He commented: “I would like to say a massive thank you to the committee for organising a fantastic gala. The day ran very smoothly and the weather held off long enough for everyone to enjoy the day. There was some fantastic highlights to the day including the parade, performances by local youth groups and of course the mini highland games. I would also like to thank Mr Briggs for opening the gala this year.

“The gala would not run without the support of the Tillicoultry community, and we look forward to seeing you all next year.” Throughout the event trophies for the annual primary school art competition, best dressed stall and best dressed window were awarded.

There were lots of family games, kids and grown-up races, mini-highland games, dancers and all the usual favourites.

There was a fancy dress competition and a good variety of costumes could be seen.

In the preschool section of the contest Manus Cairns came in first, Keva Halley was second and Zoe Hardy placed third.

In the P1-P3 section Elise Kelly came in first and in the P4-P7 section Kirsty McGregor was placed first, while Jodie Docherty came in second.

The award for best dressed window went to Pets Needs & Feeds whilst the accolade for best dressed stall went to Guide Dogs.

Those who attended on the day could take advantage of the range of amusements and there were also bouncy castles and rides for youngsters.

Also making an appearance were Tillicoultry Primary School Cheerleaders, Alloa Ballet Company and Janet Snape Highland Dancers.

The day brought the Hillfoots Community Club Football Tournament, Caledonian Classic Car Hire, Punch and Judy and more.
