THE Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a cat shot with an airgun in Clackmannanshire had to have his leg amputated.
Scotland's animal welfare charity was alerted after the cat was found injured by a resident of Muircot Place in Coalsnaughton.
It is believed the cat, named Zak, was shot on either the 29 or 30 June.
Inspector Louise Seddon said, "Despite Zak's injury, he was unable to be caught for over a week.
"Once he was taken to a vets, x-rays revealed an airgun pellet in his right hind leg.
"Zak's shin bone had shattered and he had also suffered numerous smaller fractures which, unfortunately, resulted in his leg being removed.
"He is a young cat at around four years old and it is very sad he has lost his leg due to this callous attack.
"We want cat owners in the area to be aware of the potential danger. We are also urging anyone with information on this awful case of animal cruelty to contact our helpline on 03000 999 999."
