FOLLOWING the success of last year’s Street Velodrome, Sterling Mills is once again saddling up for a celebration of cycling – and this time there’s even more to enjoy.

The pop up street velodrome will be back, alongside a range of other activities.

So while serious cyclists are seeking their inner Chris Hoy on the track, baby Bradly Wigginses can be trying out their first balance bikes.

Youngsters will have the chance to test their cycling skills on the ‘bikeability’ sessions. And for those who like a nutritious snack after their exercise, there’s even a pedal-powered smoothie maker.

Sterling Mills Centre manager Ashley Bisland said: "Last September’s event was brilliant. So many people came along and had such a good time, we decided we had to bring it back.

"This year it’s even bigger, so everyone will find something to get involved in, whether it’s a bit of fun with the smoothie maker, trying out one of the many speciality bikes with Get Cycling or a cycle around the velodrome.

"There couldn’t be a better place to catch the biking bug – we’ve got sport and outdoor retailers too. Even non-cycling spectators will find plenty to do, with more than 25 stores offering great discounts on high street brands."

Clackmannanshire Council are once again partnering in the event.

Councillor Kathleen Martin, spokesperson for environment and housing said: "Clackmannanshire Council is pleased to be working with Sterling Mills to bring the Wee Cycle Festival to Tillicoultry.

"We'll have staff and volunteers at Sterling Mills throughout the weekend delivering lots of exciting bike sessions and promoting cycling as a fun and healthy alternative to the car.

"Clackmannanshire is a wonderful county for cycling, whether you're a novice, cycling with your family, exploring with friends or looking for something a little bit more adventurous in the Ochils.

"The 'Wee Cycle Festival' is just one of a number of projects that Clackmannanshire Council will be supporting this year to encourage everyone to think about how they make their local journeys.

With the recent launch of the 'Wee Walk, Wee Cycle the Wee County' campaign and support for active travel projects in our schools and for our local employers, we're hoping to get the message out there that getting out in the fresh air, whether you're walking or on your bike, can make you feel great."
