HE HAS taken his Elvis stage show all over the world, but Clackmannanshire's own Johnny Lee Memphis insists there's nothing quite like a hometown crowd.

The Wee County King, known to his friends as Jon Fleming, remains one of the world's most respected Elvis Presley tribute acts – with a handful of international plaudits to his name.

A former Elvis World Cup champion, European champion, and finalist at the Ultimate Elvis competition in the States, his credentials cannot be questioned.

However, for Jon, 41, there's no venue like Alloa Town Hall where he will be finishing up his Absolute Elvis tour next weekend.

And due to last year's popularity, Johnny Lee Memphis will be taking to the stage two nights in a row on November 11-12.

This year's production includes footage of Elvis on the projector interacting with Johnny's live performances, backed by the JLM band, Graceland horns and the Memphis Belles.

The show will take the audience on a journey through Elvis Presley's whole career from the 50's Rock n Roll days to the movies era, and from his 1968 comeback special to his dynamic 1970's Vegas performances.

Jon's introduction to Elvis began at the tender age of only three when his mum's younger sister Helen exposed him to the music and the movies of Elvis.

And while it turned out be the catalyst for his future career, not everyone was as supportive in his youth.

Jon said: "I attended Abercromby Primary School back in the day and I can remember in P3 the whole class was asked what they wanted to be when they grew up.

"There was the usual answer you can expect from this age group stuff like fireman, bus driver, ice cream man, astronaut.

"I remember saying, 'I want to be like Elvis, miss' and the teacher said 'I think you better think about something else'. She said nothing to the kid who wanted to be an astronaut, which makes me chuckle.

"It was a long time ago, but it would be quite amusing to bump into this teacher now and say: 'You'll never guess what'."
