A MINIATURE garden competition and strawberry tea will be held in the Tillicoultry Church of Scotland hall on Saturday, June 10.

The contest is for young and old with prizes for the best in each age group and also for the most original container.

The completed garden must not exceed 40 cms in any direction and entries – £2 for adults and £1 for children – can be handed in for judging on Friday, June 9 between 6-7pm.

During the delicious strawberry tea event between 10am and 3.30pm there will also be stalls with cake and candy, pre-loved bags, scarves and jewellery, lucky dip, along with lots of fun and games for all the family to enjoy.

Admission is £3 for adults, £1 for children and all proceeds will be split between the community garden and Build a House project, helping to rebuild lives and houses in Nepal after the devastating earthquake in 2015.

Eleanor Nicolson, convenor of the garden management group, said: "The community garden, beside the church, has undergone a transformation since it opened last year and now provides a tranquil garden for the whole community to enjoy.

"It is open all day so come along and see the flowers, bug hotels and bird feeders in the wildlife area, a fairy garden, sun catchers, a stumpery and much more.

"A small information room will be opening soon. It is looked after by a management group and a willing band of volunteers."

Those interested in popping in for coffee, or helping in the garden, can visit on Monday afternoons and Wednesday mornings.
