The weather stayed lovely and dry for an open day at The Orchard Care Home last week.

As part of National Care Home Open Day, the Tullibody facility showed off its new and improved garden during a butterfly tea party on Friday (20 June).

Since January, a lot of hard work has gone into developing a sensory garden in the dementia area, with the help of the criminal justice service (Glenochil and Cornton Vale prisons), community wardens and volunteers.

During the open day, residents, staff, community partners and pupils from St. Bernadette’s RC Primary School gathered to see the finished results and to release a selection of butterflies, which had been incubated as caterpillar eggs at the home.

Lynne Hiddleston, activities co-ordinator at the home, said, “Our residents really enjoyed it and it was a wonderful day. It was a nice ending to our week.

“We look forward to more summer days that we can spend out in the garden and if anyone maybe wanted to donate plants to us, we would be happy to take them off their hands.”
