A WEE County school has won a national award for its enterprising approach to tackling social issues.
Banchory Primary received a Social Enterprise in Education Award from MSP John Swinney in recognition of its business and impact on the school and community in Clackmannanshire.
Primary seven pupils opened their own café for members of the school and the wider community, based in Tullibody Civic Centre.
In conjunction with the Tullibody Healthy Living Initiative (THLI) they created a menu of healthy drinks, snacks and rented smoothie-making bikes from the Stirling Cycle Hub for the pupils to use.
The youngsters will use the profits gained to fund sustainable activities for the current primary six pupils, to continue to support a café within Tullibody.
The pupils are among scores of children from around Scotland setting up their own social enterprise businesses as part of a growing movement and they joined 31 other primary and secondary schools and colleges at the awards ceremony in the Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, last month.
