THE Tullibody Community Garden Project ploughed its first bit of land two weeks ago.
Driven by Jim Hamilton, a local ploughman, a vintage green John Deere tractor dug up the soil for the garden’s first turf where potatoes will be planted in the spring.
Surrounded by local residents Sarah Watts, community gardener, said: “We are delighted that Jim was able to come along and get our soil ready for our tattie patch. We’ll plant potatoes in it next spring for a summer harvest.” The soil in the garden’s patch has been unturned for over 60 years.
Once the garden is up and running the local community will be able to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, there will be opportunities for volunteering and learning new skills. The project also hopes to build a small community building where workshops can be held and the garden will be a place for local people to sit and enjoy.
