AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Tullibody girl is looking to donate to two charities when she gets 15 inches cut off from her hair next month (April).

Proud mother Michelle Clark and generous daughter Romany are raising funds for Strathcarron Hospice before the long-haired, young girl will donate the cut-offs for the The Little Princess Trust to make a wig benefiting a child suffering from cancer.

The little girl, who is known as Roo to friends and family, decided to donate to the hospice after they cared for her late ‘nanny’ who passed away last November.

Romany told the Advertiser: “I’ve always wanted to donate my hair to The Little Princess Trust after seeing it on the telly when I was about four. I have really long hair and know it will make a poorly child happy.

“I would like them to feel like a normal child, my hair will grow back.

“I am doing it now because seeing my nanny go though cancer treatment and losing her hair made me very sad - she will be very proud of me.

“I’m wanting to raise money for Strathcarron Hospice because they helped keep my nanny at home and as comfortable as she could be before she passed away. I want to say thank you.” Romany, a St Serf’s pupil, and Michelle are raising money through the website JustGiving in memory of grandmother Anne Brown. They already exceeded their target of £200 by £16, but are keen to raise as much as possible through more donations and a raffle, to which tickets are available from Tullibody’s Spar.

The Big Cut will take place on 7 April, 5pm, at Jeff Buchan’s in Stirling. Mother Michelle told the Advertiser that she is “super proud” of her daughter.

She added: “Everyone knows her for her beautiful long locks and I think I may cry when she gets it cut. It was so sad watching my aunty Anne, who was more like a mum to me and that’s why Romany called her nanny, go through all her treatment and when her hair did fall out she looked ill and it was a big wake up call.

“After she passed away in November it was so hard for all the family. She left her husband and five children, she was also raising her four-year-old grandson.

“Strathcarron Hospice came to the house and helped all they could along with the local nurses. They were so kind and helped at a very hard time.

“We are overwhelmed by all the support we have had already and everyone’s generosity has blown us away.” To find out more, search for Romany Roo’s Big Cut on Facebook or JustGiving.
