THE sun shone for the annual Delph Pond Forum spring event at the weekend.

More than 60 local people got involved in a wide range of activities to help promote and protect the area during the Tullibody initiative on Saturday (18 April).

Held from noon until 3pm, it was a fantastic opportunity for families to learn more about the environment and nature while having fun.

Janette McGowan, one of the organisers, said: “The sunny weather saw plenty of sun hats and sun glasses donned by young and old.

“One of the main aims of the event was to help the community explore our new paths into the woodlands. We organised a woodland quiz and encouraged the children to scatter wildflower seeds in one of the areas beside our new footpath.

“We’re hoping the local schools will also use the woodlands now as an open door classroom around the environment and biodiversity themes taught at school. It was a very successful and enjoyable day.

“The kids loved showing us the litter they had collected from the pond and woodland area and they were racing each other to finish the woodland quiz to win one of the prizes including Easter eggs.” During the day people also had the chance to identify bugs from the pond. A gardener from Tullibody Community Garden spoke about the project and Tullibody Healthy Living (THL) provided free fruit and refreshments.

Janette added: “The Delph Pond forum was supported in the event by Tullibody Healthy Living who provided all the snacks and refreshments, Clacks Youth Services for the woodland quiz, Tullibody Community Garden for the free plant a tattie in a sack, Criminal Justice for preparing an area of land for the wild flower seeds and Greggs for the malteaser cakes. A great big thanks to all who came along and helped us on the day.”
