A Glenochil sailor has graduated as a weapon engineer from HMS Collingwood in Hampshire.
Former Lornshill Academy pupil, engineering technician (weapons engineer) Ray Hamilton, has completed his phase two training with Victory Squadron after he joined the Royal Navy last October for an exciting career that offers qualifications.
Ray grew up in Glenochil, where his parents Clare and Stephen live, and he is looking forwards to travelling, spending time at sea and completing his apprenticeship. He said: “I have enjoyed my time so far in the navy. There are not many jobs where you get paid to do adventure training and travel the world.” The 28-year-old completed his basic training at HMS Raleigh before joining the Maritime Warfare School at HMS Collingwood. There he undertook the Weapon Engineering Training Course learning about the Royal Navy’s weapon systems, safety procedures, electrical and electronic repair techniques as well as the basics of hydraulics and pneumatics.
He says one of the highlights of his time at HMS Collingwood was supporting the establishment’s Open Day and taking part in the 2014 Remembrance Day parade.
