The Auld Brig Filling Station has been selected as a finalist for a coveted fuel industry award.

Located on the busy A907 between Alloa and Stirling, the Gulf-branded station is part of the Penny Petroleum group and opened in January 2012. Now, it is up for an accolade in the Scotland up to 4 million litres per annum category in the Forecourt Trader Awards 2015.

Judges from Forecourt Trader assessed each entrant site against a set criteria, which includes the demonstration of entrepreneurial skill, imagination and dedication in running a successful business.

Also, elements such as customer service, staff motivation, layout, standard of décor, general presentation and atmosphere in the shop, as well as promotional activity and role within the community.

Site manager Cheryl Hudson said: “The team at Auld Brig works hard to retain our benchmark standards, plus we’re always looking for new ideas and ways to improve.

“With advancements in technology and an explosion of convenience product ranges, there’s always something we can trial to keep our customers happy. Above all, it’s our approach and loyal customers which makes the site a success.

“We aim to offer more than just a standard service station offering. Anyone visiting the site will see what a stunning location we’re in; to help customers enjoy the surroundings, we’ve provided an outdoor seating area so people can sit and unwind while admiring the view.” Alongside the seating area, customers can enjoy free Wi-Fi and watch current affairs programmes on TV. The station offers a fully-stocked Londis store and a wide range of fuels including unleaded, super unleaded, diesel, high speed HGV pumps, gas oil, and LPG.

Greig Dickson, area business manager for Certas Energy – the company that markets fuel under Gulf in Britain – added: “Auld Brig is a real asset to the Gulf network. Working with David, Cheryl and her team is great; they are so receptive to new ideas for products or services.

“One of the recent developments being trialled at the site is a pet food area selling a range of food and pet related products. So far it’s going well. David [Penny, owner] and Cheryl are always on the lookout for new ideas so watch out for the next new product to be launched.”
