A KEEN Tullibody walker will take on five events in the next four months – covering nearly 200 miles – as she laces up her trainers for charity.

Sandra Curl has been pounding the streets in preparation for the daunting challenge, which will see her participate in the Kiltwalk in two weeks time.

Then, from May to July, she will be embarking on the London MoonWalk, London to Brighton 50k, Over the Moon in Edinburgh and The Iceland Challenge in aid of Walk the Walk.

The 41-year-old first took up walking in 2012 to aid her weightloss, after realising she was finding it difficult to run around after her then three-year-old daughter.

A healthy eating plan in conjunction with increased exercise saw her shed around five stone and she also combined fitness with fundraising, raising thousands.

Towards the end of last year, with a few pounds having crept back on, she decided she was in need of a new challenge or two.

She has settled on some of her biggest yet, with July bringing her first event abroad and June the 52.4 mile Over the Moon from Walk the Walk.

Sandra said: "I have done the Moon Walk three years in a row and I just kind of decided last year. When I finished, I could have gone out again so I decided to go for Over the Moon.

"It was more for me. It was just to prove that I could do it – it's just that next stage.

"I have probably done about 17-18 full marathons now, so I feel I needed the next challenge."

On the training plan for the mum, who works at Menstrie petrol station, is plenty of walking, including treks up the Ochil Hills.

She pays tribute to her understanding husband and is often out of the door at 6am to keep to schedule.

As for the secret to keeping up the momentum, she said: "My Fitbit – I'm Fitbit crazy.

"I'm very driven by challenges, if I set a goal I need to achieve it."

Raising money for the breast cancer charity Walk the Walk – which is helping to fund the new Maggie's Forth Valley – is something Sandra feels strongly about.

The impact the disease has on the lives of so many, and the kind of support the organisation offers regardless of location, keeps her going.

Taking part in the MoonWalk events has also allowed her to meet lots of new people, and increase her confidence, and she is keen to tout their wide appeal.

She said: "You don't have to be super fit. It's not about pace, it's about achievement."
