A YOUNG man sadly passed away yesterday evening when he was hit by a train at Cambus.

It is understood the incident happened after 5pm near Cambus station, when the driver of the Glasgow to Alloa ScotRail service reported having struck a person.

The 23-year-old man has been named locally on social media as Scott Alexander Haney, his friends have been leaving tributes on his Facebook profile page since the incident.

People who knew Scott were left shocked and said he was “a lovely lad” and a “kind hearted guy” with many adding he was taken away far too soon and will never be forgotten.

One tribute said: “Rest in peace Bro [you were] one of the best friends I could have ever asked for. I will miss you so much Scott, love you, I will never forget you and always in my hart forever R.I.P.”

His death is not being treated as suspicious, a British Transport Police spokesperson told the Advertiser today: “We were called to Cambus station shortly before 5.20pm yesterday, Tuesday, 13 July, following reports a person was struck by a train.

“BTP officers attended alongside colleagues from the ambulance service and a 23-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
