THERE has been cause for celebration at The Tullibody Fruit Barra, which has marked 10 years of supporting healthy eating within the community.

It is an important milestone for the service - run by voluntary project Tullibody Healthy Living (THL) - which has remained popular since it was first set up a decade ago.

Every week volunteers give up their time to sustain the barra - which runs on Thursdays at Tron Court - which helps people make healthier choices.

Debbie Ross, community food development worker for Clackmannanshire Healthier Lives, said: "I can’t believe it was 10 years since we seen our first fruit barra in Clackmannanshire.

"I have worked in many other communities, encouraging them to set up a barra in their area, but most of have been unable to sustain this service locally.

"Well done to the volunteers and staff at Tullibody Healthy Living for keeping this service going and engaging with their customers to make sure they are providing what their customers want."

The tenth anniversary of the fruit barra was celebrated on Thursday, February 2.

Ann Glennon has played a leading role in its development since the beginning, starting out as a volunteer before going on to become an employee.

The fruit barra co-ordinator for THL said: "I love working with local people and discussing different ways to cook things and sharing recipe ideas.

"Our £1 soup bags continue to be our most popular item which demonstrates that we are helping people to save money and make healthier choices.

"I hope we are still here in another 10 years."
