TWO kind-hearted Wee County youngsters have been recognised for their altruistic spirit.

Meadow McAlonan and Olivia McCallum, both aged 11, baked up a storm to raise money for Cancer Research UK earlier this month.

And the icing on the cake for the Tullibody schoolchildren was the Certificate of Appreciation they each received from the national charity, thanking them for their efforts.

Louise Baxter, Meadow’s mum, said the pair decided to hold a bake sale out of the blue.

They whipped up some treats on Friday, April 13 and went around the neighbours to tell them about the event to be held the following day.

Louise said: “I was very surprised but proud of them for thinking of such a worthwhile cause especially at their age.

“They both love baking and came up with the idea of having a bake sale and giving the money to charity.”

As a result, they managed to raise £86.60 for the cause, thanks to locals digging deep in support.

Louise said: “They both decided between them to give the money to cancer research.

“Meadow wanted to as her gran passed away of cancer at Christmas time last year, and they both decided they wanted to help people that were sick.

“They didn’t think they would get anywhere near that amount as they were selling the cakes for 50p each, but everyone was so generous when they found out what it was for.”
