Dear Editor A Health Hazard in Alva Courtesy of Clackmannanshire Council Everyone in Alva must be delighted that the unsightly Alva Glen Hotel has now been demolished to make way for the new housing as proposed by the Mulraney Group.

Unfortunately the demolition has unleashed the several hundred pigeons that had been roosting within the derelict building despite Clackmannanshire Council having been asked by the previous Alva Community Council office bearers to have the vermin seen to be living inside the derelict hotel removed; unfortunately any attempt by the council to eradicate the problem of vermin was obviously unsuccessful.

Hopefully Clackmannanshire Council will be able to resolve the problems created by these pigeons very soon as evidence of their presence is everywhere, droppings all over the footpaths, feathers scattered from one end of the main street to the other, even to the extent of almost covering the complete floor area of Alva Cooperative shop on one occasion – totally unacceptable to say the least.

Perhaps Clackmannanshire Council have no intention of trying to eradicate the problem and instead are planning on saving money on their communication systems by utilising these pigeons as message carriers, a somewhat retrograde step if true!

If this is not the case, Clackmannanshire Council, please eradicate this health hazard ASAP.

Yours sincerely G Horsburgh Alva
