Alloa's Kenny Wilson is continuing his training for a trek up Africa's highest peak - Mount Kilimanjaro - for Asthma UK. His latest blog covers the recent 10 kilometre Great Scottish Run in Glasgow.

So you've done the training, spending hours out in the rain and cold (and that was just August) and you're now wishing you'd done a bit more. Now I'm here making my way to George Square with a load of other runners with their numbers all pinned to their T-shirts or wearing a black bin bags to keep the cold out, ready to rip it off minutes before the start.

I must say I'm impressed by what I saw in George Square, a well organised venue with runners warming up in their designated coloured zones, Clyde 1 entertaining the crowds and tons of portaloos - wow!. So the moment has come and I take up my starting position and I'm off, cutting my way through the streets lined with well wishers and street entertainers. There's a real buzz in the air! Come the 3k marker my hamstring is playing up and come the 8k you start passing people who are pulling up, but in my mind I'm telling myself this is what I have trained for. So I push on reminding myself of all the people who have sponsored me.

By the time I cross the finishing line I have given it my all, I can't run another foot but find I've managed to finish in the top 10 per cent and feel proud of myself..

Would I run another 10k again? Hmmm, not too sure!
