Alloa's Kenny Wilson is continuing his training for a trek up Africa's highest peak - Mount Kilimanjaro - for Asthma UK. His latest blog covers short climb up Ben Vane.

As with Ben Vorlich, park up in the car park at the Inveruglas Visitor Centre on the west side of Loch Lomond where you can find a information centre as well as a café and public toilets.

I parked here and followed the new path beside the A82 southwards, pass the Sloy hydro-electric power station and after a kilometre turned up a tarmac road with a metal gate (not designed for rucksacks) and walk under the railway bridge.

Walk along a tarmac road till a large electric substation is passed on the left, follow the road as it bends to the left over a metal bridge (right takes you to Ben Vorlich and the dam) follow the road till you meet a stone bridge and a clear path can be seen on you right, follow the path over a wee burn and start making your way up this very steep climb gaining hight very quickly enjoying some simple scrambles along the way till you reach its flat summit.

I would love to tell you about the views that day but I couldn't even see Ben Vorlich across the dam.

This may be one of the smallest Munros but a great wee climb, a very straight forward climb, with a well defined path up and down from the summit.
