It's a long way down to Loch Sloy from Ben Vorlich.

Alloa's Kenny Wilson is continuing his training for a trek up Africa's highest peak - Mount Kilimanjaro - for Asthma UK. His latest blog covers a walk up Ben Vorlich by Loch Lomond.

Park up in the car park at the Inveruglas Visitor Centre on the west side of Loch Lomond where you can find a information centre as well as a café and public toilets.

I parked here and followed the new path beside the A82 southwards, pass the Sloy hydro-electric power station and after a kilometre turned up a tarmac road with a metal gate (not designed for rucksacks) and walk under the railway bridge

Soon a large electric substation is passed on the left, follow the road as it bends to the right and ahead is Ben Vane, ignore the left turn which would take you to the start of Ben Vane and follow the tarmac road as it bends to the right towards the Loch Sloy dam.

About a kilometre short of the dam ( 4 pylons from the dam wall) it is marked by tiny cairn where a very faint path goes off to the right just after a small stream, this is a steep and lung busting ascent, bringing you out on the south ridge of Ben Vorlich but with great views across to Loch Long.

Continue along the ridge leading up and over some crags to you reach the summit .

Munro magic say-

Ben Vorlich has three tops, the OS trig point at 941m,

and the true summit 200m NNW is 943m and the North Top (931m) is 500m further N. From the summit ridge, a ridge curves NE to Stob nan Coinnich Bhacain.

I just read my map and remembered the summit pictures from the internet

Happy Walking
