Dear Editor An open letter to Clackmannanshire Administration The residents of Alva are waiting with bated breath to hear why Clackmannanshire Council are insisting on continuing with their request to the Scottish Government for a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the dilapidated eyesore of the Alva Glen Hotel!

Ignoring of course the fact that the council have already stated they are/have awarded the new owner/developer, the sum of £750,000!

Is this request for a CPO an ego trip for a local councillor and does that same councillor mistakenly believe that a CPO is required to persuade the new owner of the site to incorporate specific aspects into the design for the proposed new flatted dwelling houses that he intends to build?

Is this same councillor unaware that the time taken by Scottish Ministers to make a decision on the application for a CPO could and probably will result in the residents of Alva having to look at this nightmare building for even longer? If so, it beggars belief as the planning department can insist on specific aspects that the developer must apply and incorporate into any design before granting planning permission, eg retention of the existing front façade as had been suggested by same councillor, I am sure the last thing the residents of Alva want is constant reminding of this eyesore/blight on Alva’s main street and the building should be razed to the ground.

Your sincerely G Horsburgh
