Dear Editor, I would like to reply to the letter from Councillor Les Sharp that appeared in the Alloa Advertiser on 19th March.

Contrary to what Councillor Sharp suggests in his letter regarding the timing of my comments – it was I who was approached in February by a reporter from the Alloa Advertiser asking for my views in relation to the appointment of Head of Social Services, and not the other way round.

I merely made clear that the Labour Group had concerns regarding the Appointments Committee’s failure to follow proper process in relation to making this appointment.  For example; the position was not advertised and there was no competitive interview, which flies in the face of equal opportunity for all.

In short, what was said had absolutely nothing to do with Mrs. De Souza, and at no time did I call into question the ‘conduct’ and/or ‘capability’ of any officer of the Council, nor did I breach any confidentiality.

I can only assume that in replying to the article some 6 weeks after it was printed, Councillor Sharp must have forgotten the actual content.
