Dear editor Trips at Alva Academy can take place as far afield as New York and Germany. However, perhaps some of the best ones are the quick trips on the minibus to as near as Glasgow.

Last Tuesday, English and RMPS teacher Mr Ferguson took from National 4 to Advanced Higher English students to see ‘Blood Brothers’ at the stunning King’s Theatre in Glasgow.

‘Blood Brothers’ is a thrilling musical, written by Willy Russell, that revolves around two fraternal twins, separated at birth in a tear jerking story of their contrasting upbringings.

As well as being a hugely enjoyable experience – not only for the pupils but for the teachers – It proved useful to the National 5 pupils who are currently studying the play for their exam.

One pupil described the play as an “emotional rollercoaster” and said they found it interesting to compare the book with the play.

It was definitely an ‘edge-of-your-seat’ experience, where one moment we were crying and the next laughing. The play very rightly received a standing ovation at the end and was an amazing evening for everyone.

Yours sincerely Anna Ridley S6
