IT TOOK a Sauchie man only three months to pop the question with an Alva woman, but their relationship has passed the test of time as they look forward to celebrating a milestone.
Alexander and Janet Bennett marked their diamond wedding anniversary last Thursday August 3 – 60 years after they tied the knot at Sauchie UF Church.
They met at a dance in the Cochrane Hall and Alec did not waste much time.
Following the wedding, they enjoyed food and drink at the Station Hotel on a “brilliant day”, according to Janet.
They have lived in Sauchie ever since, have three children, six grandchildren and another six great-grandchildren.
The couple both worked at the Devonvale Mill before Janet moved into home care and Alec took a job on with Smith and Madison contractors.
Janet said the family enjoyed a number of good holidays and added: “We’ve had our ups and downs like everybody else I suppose.”
For her, the secret to a marriage is “trust and honesty”. She said: “Tell each other everything, no secrets, no nothing.”
