Alva football ace Callum Morrison has revealed he was bursting with excitement last month as he went for a trial with English Premiership giants Liverpool.

The 13-year-old Hearts youth prospect caught the eye of the Merseyside club's scouts after some impressive performance for the Edinburgh club and jumped at the chance to go and train at their high class training facilities at Melwood.

Morrison told Advertiser Sport, "I had been playing well for Hearts and one of the Liverpool scouts had seen me play. They phoned my dad to ask if I would like to go down for a trial.

"The trial itself went really well, I feel I played well and that's all you can do. The setup there was really huge and quite a lot to take in at first because the place is about double the size of Rangers' Murray Park when I went on trial there.

"I was really nervous going down there because it was such a huge club like Liverpool but I got used to it once I settled down and got playing some football. I made friends with another Czech trialist while I was there and that helped me." The young right midfielder revealed that he and his Grandfather were well looked after in Merseyside and that he couldn't help but be taken aback by the scale of everything surrounding the club.

Morrison added, "It is mad to think that where I played and trained for the days I was there is where the likes of Gerrard and Suarez play their football and that was really exciting for me.

"I didn't manage to see any of the first team players but they gave me and my Granddad a tour of Anfield which was exciting.

"The club said they will try and get me back down in May for another trial because I can't sign with them until I am 16. Hopefully that means I made a good impression on them.

"In the meantime I will just focus on my football at Hearts and our regional tournament coming up. I loved the experience at Liverpool and enjoyed it but for just now, I just want to make it as a Hearts player and make a career for myself as a footballer.

"I would like to play in the Premiership one day but not until I am a bit older. My football Idol at the moment is Gareth Bale and hopefully I can be like him one day if I work hard."
