Wasps’ boss Danny Lennon bemoaned his side’s luck as they slumped to yet another defeat in the SPFL Championship last weekend.

Greenock Morton’s narrow 1-0 win at the Indodrill Stadium on Saturday left the manager bitterly disappointed by the manner of the goal they conceded, but he was ultimately frustrated not to take something from a game his side played a big part in. The gaffer now has to find a way to galvanise his players ahead of another tough trip to face fellow part-time rivals Dumbarton.

Lennon told Advertiser sport: “It sounds as though I am repeating myself every week at this minute - that’s disappointing - and we are where we are, but I certainly believe with the quality of players we have and the character we have in that dressing room, that they can recover from the poor start. There is a lot that has been highlighted, but once again we have that frustration again of going home and suffering looking at our league position.

“I feel for the fans at this minute, but what we do have to do is make sure we stick together and get back on that training ground this week, iron one or two wee things out and let’s see where it takes us into a very important game. We have taken things from every game we have had, as we develop and learn. The biggest thing at this moment is not to get too frustrated and let that cloud our judgement because we become very ordinary when we don’t pass the ball well.

“There are very fine margins in a game of football, especially in this division, and that was certainly evident again. I am disappointed to lose the goal that we did, particularly when we had addressed that kind of stituation prior to the game and more so at half-time.

“I felt we didn’t deal with balls coming into the box for most of the game, but the amount of time the ball had to travel and that’s where you are asking players to take that responsibility and just go and attack the ball.

“I felt in the first half and again it was very much of a game of two halves. There were a lot of pleasing things for us; we were getting forward without having that cutting edge, but there is certainly a lot for us to work upon there.

“We will certainly do that, we know what’s needing addr essed and as I said it was very fine margins, so to come here and put so much into the game and to lose 1-0 is disappointing.” Lennon refused to criticise his players despite their sixth straight defeat and believes they can still come good if they can learn to capitalise on their opportunities.

He said: “I can see how hard this group of players has worked to earn the right to play in the Championship, but to stay there is going to take even harder work, so we need to stick together, regroup and be ready to go again next week.

“We will take our medicine in terms of criticism, but overall I was pleased with a lot of the aspects especially in the first half performance.

“The second half is what I am disappointed about how we just didn’t get out the traps. We were getting into good areas in the park in the first half and at times in the second half although Morton controlled and pinned us back more in the second half.

“The possession that we had, especially in the first half, when there were some great sequences up until the final ball or the final action where we did things well and that gives us something to work on.” The former St Mirren boss reserved special praise for versatile defender Kyle McAusland and says his men must focus on the positives if they are to get out of their current predicament.

Lennon added: “We will have to build on the positives. We have not conceded a goal from open play, it was once again from a set play. What we have done, is make sure we continue to be difficult to beat and I thought we defended in good areas at times. I thought Kyle McAusland had a fantastic performance, in possession and out of possession he was tucking round and the amount of clearances he had was incredible.”
