Newtongrange Star ..................................... 1 Sauchie Juniors .......................................... 3 It is a long time since Sauchie have left New, or even the old, Victoria Park with a win, but that is what they did on Saturday in this McBookies East of Scotland Superleague match. The home side finished the game with ten men, but that takes nothing away from the Sauchie display.

Fraser Duncan restructured his line up. There was now a back four of Steven Dolan, Jordan Tapping, Gary McCulloch and Iain Syme. They were solid and kept the strike force of Alistair Forster and Jack Wilson out of shooting range.

The midline of Gary Currie, Brian Morgan, David Morrison and Reece Boyle were much more creative allowing Ryan Millar and Conor Kelly to wreak havoc with their attacking prowess.

Jordan Allan was between the sticks and had little to do but when he was called into action did the necessary and bravely.

Sauchie started smartly with a Boyle floated cross being headed down by Kelly into the path of Morrison, but his attempt being picked up by Kieron Renton. Currie then released Kelly into the area but placed the ball past the post.

At the other end Jack Wilson wriggled free of his marker and sent the ball to the unmarked Mathu King with his swift strike coming straight back off the upright.

The second half was a different matter with Star scoring from a free kick in 50 mins to spark some life into the match. Tapping was adjudged to have impeded Forster and a foul given on the edge of the area. Craig Thomson took the kick and sent it low around the wall and in at the post.

Sauchie came more into the game with the right flank being worked well by Dolan, Currie and Millar but no way past Brian Murray and Brian Tolmie.

The pressure paid off for Sauchie in 76 minutes. Brian Morgan took a quick free kick to release Currie with his drive across goal being netted by Conor Kelly in a central position.

The visitors continued to pressure the home defence and increased their lead two minutes later. A Morgan right sided flag kick was headered back across goal by Gary McCulloch and volleyed into the roof of the net by Iain Syme. What a strike worthy of three points on its own.

Star did not know what had hit them and worse was to come. Miller was set free to run in on goal with Stephen Tulloch making a clumsy tackle to earn his second yellow and an early bath in 80 minutes.

The resultant free was blocked with the ball staying in and around the home goal with Tapping eventually getting the ball back from the by line to Kelly to net a third goal.

Sauchie: Allan, Dolan, Syme, Tapping, McCulloch, Morgan, Currie, Morrison, Kelly (Love), Millar (McAdam), Boyle (Bonnes).
