Sauchie youngster Conor Kelly revealed he is full of confidence after his brace in Saturday’s victory over Newtongrange.

The striker’s good start to the season attracted interest from Linlithgow Rose, but Kelly opted to stay at Beechwood Park.

And he is fully focused on continuing the run of form which has seen him bag four goals already this season despite missing games through injury.

Kelly told Advertiser Sport: “I’ve been injured the past couple of weeks so it was good to come back into the side and get two on Saturday. It was a good performance from the boys and a result like that is a great boost after the results we had previously.

“We have been working on creating chances and I am feeling confident at the moment. I go out there feeling like I am going to score in every game.” The victory saw the Juniors bounce back from consecutive losses to Musselburgh and Camelon, and Kelly believes those results are not a true reflection of Sauchie’s ability.

He said: “They are funny results. We have been beaten by teams that we should probably be beating, and we have got really good results against teams you would have expected us to struggle against like Bo’ness and Newtongrange.

“We changed things a bit on Saturday when we went to a 4-4-2 formation. They had a lot of the ball but I didn’t think they really caused us any problems. They scored from a set piece but apart from that they have not created many chances.

Sauchie’s new-look squad lie just four points off the top of the Super League table ahead of their trip to face Dundonald Bluebell in the East of Scotland Cup, and Kelly feels his side have started their season well.

He added: “We have had a hard run of games. We have played the top three from last season so to have nine points on the board at this stage is definitely a good thing.

“We are only four points off the top so it is a good start to the season, especially with all the new bodies we have brought in. We are looking forward to playing in the cup now.

“We played Dundonald last season and got a good result so we will go there feeling pretty confident.”
