Sauchie manager Fraser Duncan was delighted after his side’s victory over Newtongrange Star.

A brilliant 12-minute spell from the Juniors saw them come from behind to take maximum points from the Super League clash.

And the 31-year-old manager was full of praise for the way his young squad battled back from Newtongrange’s opener.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “I’m delighted with the way the boys went about the game. To go to Newtongrange at any time is difficult and we did really well. We worked hard and we deserved the three points. It’s one of the hardest places to go but the boys went there and showed that they have a bit of steel about them.

“Even after going 1-0 down, we still managed to battle back, and we got the reward in the end. I thought we could have performed a bit better in the first half but in the second half we came more into the game.

“After they scored they went up the park again and hit the post, so it could have been 2-0, but the boys battled away really well and managed to get three goals in the space of 12 minutes.” Young striker Conor Kelly grabbed a double as he continued his excellent start to the season, but Duncan is keen to keep his star man’s feet on the ground.

He said: “Conor is doing well but I don’t want him to get too carried away. He has done well and scored two good striker’s goals by getting himself in the right place at the right time. I think if it weren’t for the hard work of Ryan Millar and the other boys around him he might not have got the chances. As long as we are creating chances and Conor and Ryan are putting them away like they are at the minute then I will be happy with that.

“He is doing really well; he has come back fitter and sharper this season, and he has committed himself to the club which is brilliant, but we want to keep his mind on the job in hand. The boys around him are creating the chances for him and I’m just glad he’s there to put the ball in the back of the net.” Sauchie take a break from league action as they travel to face Dundonald Bluebell in the East of Scotland Cup on Saturday, and Duncan hopes his side’s good away record can see them through the difficult tie.

“It will give us a little break from the league but we want to stay in all the competitions so this is where it counts. It’s all about us getting the result on Saturday and getting ourselves into the next round.

“Dundonald is a very difficult place to go, but if we go there, work hard and show the right attitude we will give ourselves every chance of going into the next round. Our form away from home is decent at the moment and I want to keep it like that, starting on Saturday.”
