ALLOA star Colin Hamilton has urged the fans not to write them off just yet after they slumped to a frustrating 2-1 defeat at home to Queen of the South last weekend.

The Wasps' full back continued his own good form as he played his part in a decent team display that had them leading at half time, but a second half double from Gary Oliver was enough to nick all three points for the visitors.

But Hamilton insists they can still put a run of results together to close the five point gap that has left them adrift at the foot of the SPFL Championship.

Hamilton told Advertiser sport: “It is hard to come away without anything again having put so much into the game. The boys all gave everything, but maybe just a lapse in concentration has cost us with their goal right after half time. If we stop that and keep the lead for the early part of the second half then I think we would've went onto win the game. We seem to be playing well at the minute without getting the rewards for it and that's the biggest frustration.

“The manager just wants us to keep going, but I think we just need that one win to give us a lift again. Dumbarton did it the right way by picking up some vital point right at the start of the season, but now they're finding things tough and losing a number of games. That gives us hopes of catching up to the teams on 10 points and a few decent results can make all the difference because we are still full of confidence in the dressing room.

“We are playing decent teams in this league and we are constantly losing by the odd goal, and while we know improvement is needed, there is not much in it. We are now adrift at the bottom with and five point gap so we know we're already up against it with the next three games being so tough, but I certainly wouldn't be writing us off just yet. Time will tell, but we are all still confident that we can turn things around and be in this league again next year. We are nearly there as a team and it is far too early to panic. We know we're capable of putting a run together and so hopefully it clicks into place.”

As Alloa prepare for the trip to Govan to face Mark Warburton's runaway league leaders, it represents a chance for Hamilton to right a few wrongs of their first encounter and the in-form defender is relishing the prospect.

The 23-year-old believes the improvement in game have come along as soon as he adapted to his new surroundings.

He said: “We go to Ibrox with absolutely nothing to lose. The result in the first game against them means that we are expected to lose the game and heavily, but we know if we all play to our potential and they have an off day then we are more than capable of grabbing a result there.

"Of course, they are a quality side and we know it will be very tough, but we will just have to go there, be difficult to beat and hopefully they can't break us down.

“I feel like personally I am starting to find my feet now in the division and get up to speed. I don't know if the step up was bigger than I thought or if it was just bedding into a new team, but I feel like I am learning all the time.

"I am happy with my performances recently and it would be nice to continue that on at Ibrox this weekend so I am looking forward to it.”

The former Hearts youngster was left frustrated as lady luck once again deserted the Wee County outfit last Saturday, but he now reckons it is high time they force a change in fortunes.

Hamilton added: “We are definitely due a break of luck at some point. Their first goal we all felt it was offside, but even once the cross comes in, Andy makes the save and the ball breaks back to the striker instead of to me or him so that's frustrating.

"At the other end, Eddie runs the line and almost carves out a brilliant goal, but his shot hits the post and bounces to safety and that is the real difference. We will just have to look to make our own luck in the coming games.”
