Wasps hero Jason Marr believes that this week's local derby against Falkirk is the perfect place to kick start their SPFL Championship season.

Peter Houston's men are one of the form sides in the division at the moment after some impressive wins in recent weeks, while Alloa are now seven games without a win.

But after the Wasps passed up two golden opportunities to score before half time in Govan last Saturday, the 25-year-old reckons that is a positive sign for the upcoming games.

Marr told Advertiser sport: “I don't think the confidence is low in the dressing room despite our recent run, it is hard to put our finger on what is going wrong for us, but on another day both those lads would bury those chances and hopefully that day comes against Falkirk next week because we are due a change in fortunes.

“It would be ideal if we can kick-start our season in the local derby and the good thing for us is that these type of games are a leveller where form books go out the window. Everyone will be up for the game and while we know it will be a difficult game with them playing so well at the minute, we can take confidence from the last time we played them. As a group, we know we're more than capable of giving them a game, but hopefully we can take the three points as well.

“I still believe we gave a good account of ourselves against Rangers despite the score. We tried to play our football, but it just wasn't our day. There are some real positives to take from the afternoon and hopefully we can go into the Falkirk game with our heads held high and look forward to it. The Chopra chance off the bar is a big moment for us because if that goes in then it changes the whole complexion of the match. You expect Chops to finish a chance like that and he has maybe caught it too sweetly. Eddie was also through on goal and if he pulls the trigger earlier he scores, but he takes that extra touch which you just can't do at Ibrox, so it could easily have been 2-2, but it just wasn't to be.”

Marr put in another top display despite his side's 4-0 loss to Rangers at Ibrox last weekend, and he believes it is one of his busiest games of the season so far as The Gers showed the quality that has got them a five point lead at the top of the table.

The in-form defender is pleased with his consistent early season form, but insists he would trade it in for a few more points on the board.

He said: “I have been happy with my own form in recent weeks, but I would definitely trade that in for a few wins. Everyone is trying hard and doing there bit and we just need results to go our way now. It was disappointing to lose the game by the margin we did in the end, but even when we conceded the early goals, I felt like we stuck well to our game plan. We kept it tight, kept on going and tried to play our football, but Ibrox is just such a difficult place to go. It is definitely one of my busier afternoons because they are a quality side who never stop and they had runners coming at us from all over the place at times. We were constantly on our toes and it was just all about our concentration, but I think each of their goals are preventable and that is the disappointing aspect of the game.”

The Clackmannanshire outfit are a third of the way through a horrendous run that sees them face the top three in the division in consecutive weeks, but the former Clyde and Falkirk defender reckons it could just be the making of them.

Marr added: “To play the top three sides in the division in quick succession like this is always tough, but if we come out the other side with some points then it could just be the catalyst for us. We have been competing very well every week recently and we know that if a couple of results go our way then things can turn around very quickly in this league.

“You never know, but a good result against Falkirk will certainly spur us on for a massive game against Hibs at home the following week. We beat Hibs at home last season so I see no reason why we can't do it again as long as we go in with the same frame of minds and apply ourselves. We go into every game with the confidence that we can take something from it.”
