ALLOA favourite Michael Doyle reckons the last few weeks have shown how well the youth system at the club is working.

In a week where more reform to the grassroots of the game has been the hot topic of discussion once again, the Wasps have defied the critics by blooding three new youngsters into their first team squad this season.

And the fans' favourite hopes they can now kick on and stake a regular claim for first team football.

Doyle told Advertiser Sport: “I was delighted to see Scott Hynd and Martin Hardie getting their chance at the weekend. It is a testament to the manager for showing belief in the youth system, but it also proves that the club are producing players. Ryan Hoggan made his league debut against Rangers the previous week so the future is looking bright in Alloa. The gaffer could easily have just thrown defenders on to try and play for damage limitation at Falkirk last week, but instead he gave the young guys their chance and they didn't let anyone down.

“We've known about Scotty since he scored for the first team at the age of 15 and it has been a long time coming for him to get back in the first team squad. He's had to be patient, but I have seen how hard he has worked and hopefully now he can get his chance.

“Michael is from Drumchapel like me so we have travelled together a lot and I told him to go away and get back to enjoying his football again. He did that and now has come back all the better for it and hopefully now they can both take that next step to regularly compete for a place in the squad.”
