BT Caledonia League Division 2 Midlands

Blairgowrie RFC…………………………7

Alloa RFC…………………………………57

THIS was the visitor’s first match in four weeks due to the recent inclement weather, but they showed no signs of rustiness in the early stages at the JJ Cougar Park as they flew out of the blocks putting early pressure on the home side line.

With only 5 minutes played, Rab Truesdale crashed his way over from short range following a quick tap penalty and Sabelo Sam promptly doubled the lead when he too showed power and pace to evade some despairing home side tackles.

It was pretty much one way traffic at this point with the Blairgowrie defence struggling to cope with the intensity of the Alloa attack and two further scores from Stevie Skelton and Matthew Duncan continued this season’s record of having taken a try scoring bonus point in all of their games played to date.

The home side started the second half better than they had the first and enjoyed some territorial advantage for a period. During this time they showed that they were a better side than their lowly league position suggested and they deservedly reduced the Alloa lead by 7 points with a well worked try after 55 minutes.

However, this only spurred the visitors into action and immediately from the restart; Daniel Murrell did well to finish off a nice handling move and a Lee Cairney double soon followed.

The Blairgowrie defence had worked hard all afternoon, but were now beginning to show signs of tiredness and Philip Edwards strolled through a number of weary tackles to score under the posts before Captain, Gary Taylor added try number nine which was a just reward for their overall dominance.

Alloa return to league action after the festive period when they face Madras FP at Earlsfield on Saturday 9th January 2016 – 2pm KO.
