ALLOA utility man Kyle McAusland has vowed to fight for his place in the team as the Wasps battle against relegation.

The former Rangers man has played in defence, in midfield and even briefly as a striker since joining the club in the summer, and although he is happy to play anywhere, he admitted he would like to make one position his own.

McAusland told Advertiser Sport: “I have obviously played in a number of positions, which I am comfortable doing, but it has meant it's been difficult to get a consistent run of form. I have played in this midfield role last season for Dunfermline and this season here so I do enjoy it, but I am happy to play wherever the manager needs me. I have played right back, then centre half to right midfield and even up front at one point so it would be nice to lock down a steady spot in the team and that is my aim over the next few months.”

The 22-year-old revealed he has been impressed with new manager Jack Ross, who replaced Danny Lennon last week.

He said: “First impressions are everything and with the gaffer there is already a massive difference. I think with him having worked with Hearts U20s, everything he is doing with us seems really current and fresh so training has really got us buzzing and hopefully we can translate that to matchday. I think we have a lot to look forward to. His arrival has filled us with belief that we can turn this around.”

McAusland believes that despite defeat to St Mirren, there is plenty of hope for the Wasps as they take on Raith Rovers on Boxing Day.

He added: “There were loads of positives to take from the defeat and I don't think any of us are feeling any doom and gloom. We have to just dust ourselves down and be prepared for the Raith Rovers game. If we apply ourselves well enough and try to maintain the buzz in the dressing room from the arrival of the new manager then I definitely think we can produce a result.”
