ALLOA manager Jack Ross says his side are only looking forwards as they prepare to take on Falkirk in their first match of 2016.

The Wasps have endured a torrid campaign, with only two victories to their name, but Ross believes there have been plenty of positive signs since he replaced Danny Lennon in the Indodrill Stadium hotseat.

But the manager insists his players will be fired up for the visit of their Championship rivals and backed them to start picking up vital points in their battle for survival.

Ross told Advertiser Sport: “I don’t think we will pay too much attention to previous results. We are looking forward at the moment because there is not much point in reflecting on any games. We have got to try and be as positive as we can. It is a game which the players will look forward to because it is on television and Falkirk will bring a good support. Those games are always exciting to play in and I think there are players who will rise to that.

“I saw a lot more positives than negatives from the game against St Mirren. We were obviously disappointed that the game was called off on Saturday but it allowed us more time to get to know each other and hopefully that will stand us in good stead.

“I think each game for us is huge. We are now into the second half of the season and it is imperative now that we start to pick up positive results. Every game is going to be hugely important for us as we start to climb the table.”

Ross admitted his side would be in for a tough game against one of the division’s form teams, but reckons his side have what it takes to frustrate the team he spent three years with as a player.

He said: “Given the size of the club and knowing the expectations around the club, they will believe they should be in the top league. The form they are in is terrific. I watched them against Dumbarton and they are playing with confidence. They are a good side who have some really good players. It’s a difficult game but as I said before the St Mirren game we need to start making our home ground a place that is difficult to get points from and that will be our approach going into Saturday’s match.”

The former Hearts youth coach took over at Alloa three weeks ago and has already been impressed with his squad during his time in charge.

He added: “The most impressive thing is the response I have had from the players. Each and every manager has their own approach and mine is possibly different to what they are used to but they have responded well. It is still a period of adjustment for me as well in terms of coming to work with part-time players rather than having them with me all day every day which was the case before. I am still trying to get to know them but I am getting there and I couldn’t have asked any more of them in terms of their application.”
