ALLOA new boy Scott McKenna says he can make an impact at the Indodrill Stadium and help the Wasps on their way to Championship survival.

The teenage defender, who has joined on loan from Aberdeen, is confident they can drag themselves to safety come the end of the season, and in the process he is hoping his time with Jack Ross’s side can help him force his way into Derek McInnes’ plans at Pittodrie.

McKenna told Advertiser Sport: “We are definitely capable of getting out of the position we are in. Obviously there is a bit of a gap just now but if we keep putting in performances like we did on Saturday we will start picking up wins. Once we get one win I think we are capable of getting a few more and we will start climbing the table.

“I’m hoping I can help Alloa get out of the position they are in and also use the time to make myself a better player. I’m looking to try and get into the first team picture when I go back so getting experience at a decent level will hopefully make me a better player.”

The 19-year-old made his debut last Saturday against Falkirk and although he ended up on the losing side, McKenna put in a man-of-the-match performance against one of the division’s form sides.

He said: “It was my first game and I didn’t really know what to expect. The game took off a lot quicker than I was expecting. It was very end-to-end and quite physical. I thought I did alright for my first game at that level. Obviously I would have preferred to come away with a clean sheet.

“Falkirk are second in the league but I didn’t think there was that much between the two sides. There wasn’t a lot in the game and apart from the goal, Andy McNeil didn’t have an awful lot to do, but neither did Danny Rogers.”

Alloa’s next game is a trip to Fife to face Raith Rovers next Tuesday, and McKenna says that if they can train and prepare well, they are capable of pulling off a shock and getting back to winning ways.

He added: “We want to get two or three good training sessions under our belts as a team. The manager hasn’t had long with the team himself so that will help him get across what he wants to do, and hopefully that can set us up for the game against Raith Rovers.”
