SAUCHIE Juniors boss Fraser Duncan was pleased with his players' performance after they came from behind to snatch a late draw with Newtongrange.

The Wee County side had opened the scoring early on through Iain Diack before Star came roaring back to take the lead.

But Josh Flood popped up in the dying seconds to level the scores, and the manager says it would not have been an injustice had they gone on to take all three points.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “Going into the game we wanted to make as hard as we could for them to come here and pick up points and we did that on Saturday. In the end we deserved a point but nobody would have been able to moan if we had gone on and won the game. We are delighted with the point but also a little disappointed not to have got all three.

“The most important thing is to be putting points on the board every Saturday and we are doing that just now. In the first 15 minutes on Saturday we were different class and played some great football. We fell out of the game a bit and when they equalised they took control for the rest of the first half, but in the second half there was only one team in it.”

Sauchie have started the second half of the season in fine form after a disappointing end to 2015, and Duncan is hoping they can continue their good run with a win over Broughty on Saturday.

He said: “We had a heart-to-heart with the guys and told them things had to improve. We have made a few changes and the boys know that when they go out on the park, anything less than one hundred per cent is unacceptable. We have added a bit of quality and it is all boys who work hard and want to be there.

“It will be tough task on Saturday because Broughty are picking up points well at home, so it is a really difficult place to go, but we have got to be looking to take at least something from the game.”

The manager has been dealt a blow with the news that Iain Diack is set for a spell on the sidelines, but he urged the rest of his squad to work hard and stake a claim for the striker's place.

Duncan added: “Iain is going to be struggling for a couple of weeks. Given his age it is going to take a bit longer but he is a model professional and will do things the right way. It is just one of these things. It gives some of the boys an opportunity to make sure they impress in training. If they want to be in the team it is up to them to prove to me that they deserve it.”
