ALLOA Athletic striker Isaac Layne is out to repay boss Jack Ross for giving him a second chance to shine at the Indodrill Stadium.

The young hitman the latter part of 2015 on-loan with League One outfit Brechin City and he says he will always be grateful to the Angus club because that experience has helped him recapture his confidence.

Now the former Southend United trainee hopes to make the most of him second coming as he looks to help fire the Wasps to safety at the foot of the SPFL Championship.

Layne told Advertiser sport: “I am so thankful to the manager for showing faith in me by starting me straight away and so hopefully I can go on and repay him now. I know the goals will come for me with the chances we are creating as a team now so hopefully I can crack on score goals for the gaffer. The first game against Raith was a case of adjusting to a much higher tempo than League One. I feel I am finding my feet now and getting to grips with it.

“Brechin were an unbelievable club for me. The manager Darren Dods and his staff showed an incredible amount of faith in me and I enjoyed every minute there because I was learning from every game. I really have to thank them for giving me my chance to shine because it has now given me the platform to finish the season off well here and make an impact for Alloa to help keep us up.

“There was nothing in the whole game and I would even say we looked more of a threat than they did so that is why it is so frustrating to come away with nothing. This league is so brutal because one chance can win you the game or one mistake and you get punished. It has been an adjustment for me coming back up from playing League One with Brechin. We are competing with full time clubs each and every week so for us to stand a chance we have to be at 110%.”

Layne believes the atmosphere of the whole club has been lifted by the arrival of the new manager and his more positive approach on and off the field has been a key factor according to the talented young striker.

He said: “The manager has been a lot more positive in his style of play than Danny was and I think it has been a real lift to everyone at the club that he has come in at the right time. I think Danny had lost his way and maybe started to lose the changing room a bit. But since Jack has come in, he has been brilliant with all the boys and has created a positive environment that allows us all to enjoy our football again. I think that is shown in our performances so far and we are growing in confidence every week. We beat Raith, we were beating Morton quite comfortably and we pushed Queen’s all the way as well so I think we can head into the St Mirren game with a positive frame of mind.”

The 20-year-old has caught the eye with his performances since his return to the club and he is now hoping to extend that run of good form as the club face a crucial clash with relegation rivals St Mirren in Paisley this weekend.

Layne added: “The St Mirren game is a huge one for us now and the three points would be massive for us. I would love to go and grab my first league goal for the club in the game, but as long as I can do my bit for the team first and foremost then that’s what matters. If we play like we have been and take some of the chances we are creating then we can definitely get a result.”
