ALLOA Athletic travel to Paisley on Saturday for their SPFL Championship clash with St Mirren and manager Jack Ross says they must believe they can win the game.

The Wasps boss has urged his players to use people writing them off as relegation fodder as motivation to rip up the form book against his former side.

Ross told Advertiser sport: “St Mirren are a good side with a lot of quality players at their club, but I try not to pay attention to other teams forms because if I did then I would struggle to convince our players that they can go and win the game.

"It is all about ripping up that form book every week for us because of the position we find ourselves in. There is so little between the majority of the teams in this league so in any given match anyone is capable of winning.

“I know from my time playing at St Mirren that the fans are passionate and demanding of their team, so that is some we have to look at using that more than worrying about their form.

"They will see it as a chance to improve their home form which hasn’t been the best this season, but hopefully now our players are ready to prove people wrong and be ready to take advantage if anyone under estimates us.

“It is motivating me and also the entire group that people have already written us off and we are desperate to prove them all wrong.

"We have done that bit by bit so far without setting the heather on fire, but people are now at least expecting a difficult game from us and that is a good starting point.”

Alloa have a few injury concerns going into the game. Michael Chopra is ruled out once again with an Ankle Injury, while Iain Flannigan (Back Injury) and Robbie Crawford (calf strain) are both doubtful.

The 39-year-old former Saints star believes it is a game and venue that the players should relish playing in and he wants them to approach it with a positive frame of mind.

Ross added: “These are the type of games that make playing in this league so exciting. To get to go to a ground like the Paisley 20/21 stadium is superb for the players because it is a great environment to play football.

"Our players should look forward to going there because if we play in the same manner as we have been over the last four games then we will give ourselves a chance of taking all three points.

"That is something we are stressing to them all the time - it is not just about trying to take something from a game like this - it is about going there and looking to win it.”
