GOAL hero Colin Hamilton says the 2-2 draw with Greenock Morton proves Alloa are a totally different team under new manager Jack Ross.

The Wasps defender notched his second goal of the season to start the comeback on Tuesday night and he revealed how the gaffer has given them licence to shoot on sight in and around the box.

Alloa have been much improved over the last six weeks in terms of performance, the former Hearts trainee knows they must start producing results now.

Hamilton told Advertiser sport: “We had a poor start to the game and if we maybe had come through that spell then the game might have been different. All of the boys are just fighting for each other now. We know we are in a dog fight and it is just a case of getting our heads down and battling for every point.

“It was a bit of a shock with the way they took the lead because we had done well up until their opener. The one good thing about the manager is he doesn't go mad on the touchline or anything, but instead he was just reassuring us as well as telling us to believe in ourselves and not fold.

“My first one the goalkeeper dropped in and now this one was a deflection, but I am happy with them both. I want to try and chip in with even more goals between now and the end of the season, but we now just need to try to turn these types of games into wins.

“After that we got our goal and managed to get a foot hold in the game and fought our way back, but it is frustrating that we keep giving away silly goals. The manager has got us taking a more positive approach to games now and he is wanting us to shoot and take more chances in the final third.

"I think before we were guilty of trying to walk the ball in at times, but now the gaffer is telling us to get strikes away when we get into decent areas and luckily enough mine found its way into the net.”

Alloa now face the top two in the SPFL Championship as they meet Rangers and then Hibernian in consecutive weeks, but Hamilton insists those ties hold no longer hold any fears for them as they look to close the gap on the sides above them in the coming games.

He said: “Saturday will be a great day for the club and we know Rangers will bring a big crowd so it will be an exciting one to be part of. We have still to win at home this season, but who's to say we can't go and produce the win against Rangers then go on a wee run.

"We have some massive games coming up in the next six weeks with Livingston and then Dumbarton back to back so this could be the making of us.

“We are still all full of confidence that we can get out of this and the gaffer has been through this before when he was involved at Dumbarton so he has made us aware of what it is going to take. We just need to kick on now and give our all until the end of the season, but there is no need for panic.”

The 23-year-old full back reckons Dougie Hill's late equaliser is the type of goal that they should be producing more of because they have so many player who can threaten from set plays.

Hamilton added: “We need to start playing to our strengths as well at set pieces. Obviously, Dougie's goal comes from a corner and we have the likes of him, Kyle McAusland and Jason Marr who are all big lads and always a threat at set plays so we need to exploit their presence a bit more. I will take the goals in any way they come though.”
