Steven Hetherington had put the hosts ahead and they looked to be on course for an unlikely three points, but former Wasps defender Kyle Benedictus pounced late on to level the scores.

Jack Ross made one change to the starting lineup which lost to Dumbarton, with Colin Hamilton replacing Liam Caddis.

The Wasps were keen to force the issue early on and Hamilton almost picked out Michael Duffy with a fine ball down the left, but the Rovers defence did well to intercept and clear the danger.

At the other end, Aiden Connolly, son of Alloa assistant Paddy, fired a shot just wide from the edge of the box.

Dougie Hill was inches away from getting his head on a great delivery from Iain Flannigan, who swung a free kick in from out wide after Duffy was fouled.

Duffy went close to making contact with a Flannigan cross with an acrobatic effort as the Wasps went in search of the opener.

Ryan Hardie forced a last-ditch block from Hill after he had done well to work his way into a good shooting position.

Connor McManus had Kevin Cuthbert scrambling with a speculative shot from distance but the Raith keeper was relieved to see the ball fly just over his crossbar.

Hardie was in the thick of the action again, bursting clear of the Wasps defence before firing a shot at goal, but the angle was too tight and Scott Gallacher was able to make a good stop.

Duffy then did well to find shooting space on the edge of the box. His effort was deflected straight to the feet of Mitch Megginson, but the Rovers defence recovered to divert his shot behind for a corner.

James Craigen had an effort blocked before Mark Stewart scooped the rebound over the bar as the visitors continued to look threatening every time they came forward.

Marr was forced into two last-ditch blocks in quick succession, denying Stewart after a slip from Hill and then getting his body behind Craigen’s effort to send it behind for a corner.

Hill then had to make a terrific block to deny Stewart after Gallacher’s clearance had rebounded off the Rovers striker, leaving him with an open goal.

There was a scary moment for the Wasps fans in the opening minutes of the second half. Connolly fired a shot towards goal and it looked to be a routine stop for Gallacher, but the keeper misjudged the flight of the ball and was relieved to see it squirm wide of the post after he had attempted to palm it clear.

The visitors were on top by this point and Lewis Toshney went close with a powerful drive from distance which curled away from Gallacher’s goal at the last second.

Duffy was at the heart of most of Alloa’s positive play and the young forward went agonisingly close with a dipping effort which shaved Cuthbert’s post.

But just after the hour mark, the Wasps did what Rovers had been unable to do and took one of their chances. Flannigan played a lovely ball into the box which was missed by Megginson, but Steven Hetherington was arriving at the back post to slot the ball past Cuthbert.

Raith replied immediately and Craigen went close with a free kick which was not far away from finding the top corner.

The home side could have extended their lead with a quarter of an hour remaining. Megginson played a lovely diagonal ball to McAusland, who slipped a pass through for Duffy, but Cuthbert did well to parry the Celtic loanee’s shot wide.

Marr was excellent throughout and produced another magnificent block to deny substitute Harry Panayiotou when the youngster looked certain to score.

But Alloa’s hearts were broken in the final minute and it was a former Wasps hero who got the equaliser. The ball was flicked on from a long throw, and Benedictus was on hand to hook home the latest of equalisers.

There was no time for the Wasps to respond and they remain without a home win all season, and lie ten points adrift at the foot of the Championship table.
