Alloa Athletic have confirmed the release of star striker Michael Chopra after an ankle injury brought his season to a premature end.

The former Newcastle United, Cardiff City and Ipswich Town hitman made a total of 28 first team appearances for the club scoring four goals in the process.

Each of the experienced striker's goals for the club were memorable ones with three coming in the final weeks of last season that were critical to the Wasps survival in the Championship last season including the opening goal in the stunning comeback win over Forfar Athletic in the playoff final second leg last May.

This year started with a lot of promise for 32-year-old as he made the headlines once again with a stunning strike in the live televised game with Rangers on the opening day of the season, but injuries soon took their toll on his season.

An ankle injury, which he picked up in a bounce game, has since gotten worse forcing him to accept defeat in his battle for fitness this season and he has now agreed his release to allow the club to rebuild for next season.
