WASPS stalwart Jason Marr insists Jack Ross is the right man to lead them straight back up if the club are to be relegated into SPFL League One for next season.

The popular defender has ironically enjoyed of his most consistent season's this year despite the club's struggles, but admits he is now desperate to stick around to help the gaffer lead the Wasps' fightback next season.

Ross has over seen a big transformation at the club since replacing Danny Lennon in January and while they look unlikely to avoid the drop, the former Falkirk defender believes the club should act quickly to secure the manager's services.

Marr told Advertiser sport: “Everyone is obviously on year to year contracts because we are part time so there is definitely still something to play for, but players should hopefully be giving their all anyway and I don't think there is a question of that in our dressing room. I think the most important thing for the club is that the gaffer sticks around. It is massive. If we are going down then there is no question in my mind that he is the guy to get us back up. He has been such a positive influence on the boys since he came here and he is definitely the man the club need to keep here.

“I have been delighted to have played a lot more games this season and I haven't had as many problems with injuries. It has probably been one of my more consistent seasons as a result, but I am just disappointed that it been in a season where we have struggled in the league. Hopefully I can go on to play the rest of the game this season and then look to build on that next term.

“I would love to stick around for another season if the gaffer wants me. That is obviously a discussion for another day once the dust settles on the season, but I love the club so there is nothing else in my mind for next season.”

Alloa's miserable run at home continued after Keith Watson's cruel late winner consigned them to yet another SPFL Championship defeat last weekend, and Marr admits it was a tough blow to take.

He said: “I felt we were by miles the better team against St Mirren. We have had some unbelievable chances and Jamie Langfield has pulled out some outrageous saves to deny us, but it was the story of entire season really. We have always been in games, always competing and doing well, but we never seemed to get the breaks when we needed them and that was definitely the case again on Saturday. We lose a scrappy goal after dominating the game and when that happens you have to accept it is maybe just not meant to be this season for us.

“We have a great attitude in the dressing room here and the gaffer simply would not let us play any other way, so we will continue to go out there and give our all for the fans and try to get them that elusive home win before the end of the season. If we are going down then we are not going to go quietly. We will look to go and make life difficult for Livingston next week and they will have to drag us out of this league kicking and screaming. We carry on every week and do the exact same until the inevitable now.”

The former Falkirk and Clyde defender wasn't surprised by the man-of-the-match display from Michael Duffy and believes the on-loan Celtic player has been one of the club's best players this season.

Marr added: “Duffy has probably been the bright spot of the season for us he has been individually very good this season. He can go hold his head up high no matter what happens and go back to Celtic knowing he has done his bit for the team.”
