ALLOA goal hero Michael Duffy admitted it is a huge relief to have finally picked up a home victory in the Championship.

The Wasps had been without a win at the Indodrill Stadium all season, until the loan star's strike seconds before half time secured three points against promotion-chasing Hibernian.

The youngster believes the victory is no less than the Alloa squad deserve at the end of a season which has had more downs and ups for Jack Ross's side.

Duffy told Advertiser Sport: “It was a brilliant day, especially against such a big team. We deserved it with the way we have been playing in recent weeks. In the past few weeks we have been so unlucky in big games which we should have won, so it is good to finally get the win today. Our luck hasn't always come at the right times this season but it paid off and we deserved the win.

“We have been so unlucky on big occasions. When we were winning against Morton the game was called off, we couldn't hold out against Raith and in other games we have had lucky goals against us. I think we deserved that win.”

The 21-year-old's strike proved the crucial one as the Wasps ended their home hoodoo, and he was delighted to have made the difference after going close to finding the net in recent weeks.

He said: “It is always nice to get a goal. There have been a lot of games where it has not fallen for me at the right time. I was convinced it was over the line – as soon as I hit it I turned and ran away to celebrate. Some people are saying it was and some are saying it wasn't. The main thing is that it was given.”

The Celtic loanee says that although the Wasps have already been relegated, they are keen to finish their three-year stay in the Championship on a high.

Duffy added: “We just played like we have done over the past three weeks. We want to do ourselves proud and go on and get another two home wins, because the fans deserve it. We can obviously take a lot of positives from the Hibs game and from the last few games. Hopefully we can now build on it and finish the season strongly.”
